Professor Yang Hongnian

Yang Hongnian is a renowned conductor and leading figure in music education in China. He serves as professor of conducting at the Central Conservatory of Music and as an adviser to the China Choral Society and the China Chorus Union. In 1983, Prof. Yang founded the Children and Young Women's Chorus of the China National Symphony Orchestra, and is now the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Chorus. As a conductor, Prof. Yang has won global recognition through numerous performances on national and international stages. He frequently sits on judging committees for various choral music competitions. Between 1987-1999 he was selected as Vice Chairman of the International Children's Chorus and Performing Arts Association for three consecutive terms. As a composer, Prof. Yang's choral compositions are very much sought after among choir conductors in China. In 2012 his composition Introduction & Toccata won the first prize in the choral music category of the NationalMusic Composition Contest. In November 2013 China Chorus Association awarded him the "Chinese Chorus Lifetime Achievement Award". Few months later, in January of 2014, he received the title of "2013 Chinese Cultural Figures" from the Chinese Culture Promotion Society.
