The Austrian composer Gottfried von Einem (1918 - 1996) had his first international successes in his early twenties, the final breakthrough came with the opera "Dantons Tod" ("Danton's Death" after a play by Georg Büchner) at the Salzburg Festival 1947. Widely acclaimed were following operas like "Der Prozess" ("The Trial" / Franz Kafka) and "Der Besuch der Alten Dame" ("Visit of the old lady" / Friedrich Dürrenmatt). In the seventies of the 19th century, Gottfried von Einem had most performances of all composers of operas worldwide. The United Nations commissioned the jubilee work for their 30th anniversary to von Einem, the cantata "To Posteriority" was premiered in the UN building in New York. In his later years Gottfried von Einem dedicated himself more to smaller forms like string quartets, pieces for solo instruments, songs and lieder cycles.

The Gottfried von Einem Private Music Foundation is dedicated to making known the music of the great Austrian composer Gottfried von Einem (1918 to 1996), one of the most successful, most idiosyncratic and most difficult to classify creative musicians of the past 20th century. The extraordinary body of work left by Gottfried von Einem is a piece of Austrian cultural identity that needs to be documented and made known to future generations.

Gottfried von Einem Private Music Foundation supports the World Peace Choral Festival

The Gottfried von Einem Private Music Foundation, which is an important cultural institution in Austria, supports the World Peace Choral Festival with the Gottfried von Einem Prizes. The activities of the foundation meet the goals of the World Peace Choral Festival: supporting the young generation in music development and promoting world peace.

The choirs participating in the competition category of the World Peace Choral Festival will present their artistic achievement in front of an international jury, under the leadership of Univ.-Prof. Erwin Ortner, a well known Austrian choral expert, and the best ones will be awarded with the Gottfried von Einem Prizes.

Competition is not the ultimate goal of the World Peace Choral Festival, but to encourage further development of the choirs and their young members, the festival provides an open and fair chance for choirs, on their free will, to present themselves in a way of competition. The jury consists of international well known choral conductors and educators.

The World Peace Choral Festival welcomes you!
